Former Hackett standout Chris Adrian to take over coaching duties for the Kalamazoo Outrage.

KALAMAZOO The Kalamazoo Outrage announced today that Chris Adrian will be the new Premier Development League coach for the 2010 season.

Adrian replaces head coach Mark Spooner who had submitted his resignation just 8 weeks before the season was set to begin to reportedly take a similar position with the Chicago Fire. Recently announced assistant coach Dan Bulley was a casualty of Spooner’s resignation as well with Adrian set to bring in his own staff within the next few weeks.

A familiar name (Adrian) in the Kalamazoo soccer community having played for Outrage parent Club TKO Premier as a youth, as well as at Hackett HS and with the Kalamazoo Kingdom. He is currently head coach of the men's program at Kalamazoo College. “Despite having a number of very capable candidates to replace Mark, Chris' experience coupled with his local connections to Kalamazoo and our parent club made him our first choice” said Doug Hammerberg of the Outrage management group.

"It is an honor to work with the Outrage franchise” said Adrian. "The soccer communities in Kalamazoo and TKO Soccer Club have given me the opportunity to play and coach at a high level--from winning state championships at Hackett High School to playing and coaching at Drake University and Kalamazoo College, I have been extremely fortunate to work with some of the best players and coaches in the nation. I see this as an opportunity to give back to the community that has given me so much."

According to Adrian “They (Outrage) always put together a roster of the nation's best college soccer players.”  This year is no exception as Spooner had spent the winter working on the 2010 roster and Adrian expects that “this year's roster will feature athletes from Wake Forest, Marquette, Drake, Evansville, MSU, University of Wisconsin, and Western Michigan University as well as a high level player or two from the United Kingdom." He also stated that “For youth players and soccer fans, it is a privilege to have such a high level of soccer in a city of our size.”

“Coaching in the PDL is a big challenge and Chris is ready for the challenge and prepared to compete for a championship.  Chris has collegiate playing and coaching experience, playing experience in the PDL and has great recruiting contacts with some of the top men’s soccer programs in the country” said TKO Technical Director Rich Labadie.

Adrian won 3 state championships while a player at Hackett High School in Kalamazoo before moving on to play division I college soccer at Drake University in Iowa. He graduated in 1999 with a B.S. in International Relations/Spanish. In 2001 he completed work on a Master of Education at the University of Notre Dame. He then returned to Iowa as the Associate State Director of Coaching for the Iowa Soccer Association and as an assistant coach at Drake University. In 2004 he returned to the Kalamazoo area as an assistant at Albion College before taking over the reigns at Kalamazoo College in 2005.
